Pulwama, Jun 16 (KNO): Panic gripped Padgampora area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district after several people were injured in an attack by a rabid dog.
Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the stray dog went on a rampage, biting multiple residents before it was chased away. “The dog attacked people in broad daylight, and no one felt safe stepping outside. Children and elderly were particularly at risk,” said Fayaz Ahmad, a resident of the area.
The incident has triggered fear and resentment among the locals, who have urged the administration to take immediate measures to control the stray dog menace in the area.
“This is not the first time. We have been raising this issue repeatedly, but no serious action has been taken so far,” said another local, Javaid Ahmad. “Now that so many people have been injured, we request the authorities to wake up before it’s too late.”
Meanwhile, the injured have been provided anti-rabies treatment at nearby health facilities.
Locals have requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and take action in this regard. They have also demanded sterilization and relocation of stray dogs to avoid such incidents in the future.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Mushtaq Ahmad told KNO that following the incident, teams from the medical, municipal, and revenue departments have been rushed to the area to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance.
“We have taken note of the incident and appropriate measures will be taken to safeguard the people,” he said—(KNO)
